Why Culture Is So Important To Us At Company Watch

Written by Steve Savage | Jul 18, 2024 9:56:10 AM

At Company Watch, we’re all about teamwork. The success we’ve enjoyed over the years is thanks to the amazing team we’ve built.

Our focus on creating a strong company culture has been key to growing the right group of innovative people. But we also want work to be fun. So, in 2024 we’re focusing on well-being.

We’re always looking for new ways to keep the Company Watch team happy and we’re passionate about improving our culture, from team-building activities to well-being days. Let’s take a look at how we grew a unique culture at Company Watch.

Our core values

It’s important to us that as the company grows, we all grow and thrive with it. It’s part of what has helped us attract top talent and drive results. We’re proud to have a diverse team of talented individuals from around the world working with us.

To build this team, we’ve had to ensure we’re all on the same page when it comes to our values. Our 3 core pillars were developed by our team and are the driving principles of everything we do at Company Watch. They've helped us create a fun and dynamic workplace where everyone thrives.

Innovation

We celebrate and encourage creativity, fostering a culture of curiosity and introspection. We have a passion for continuous improvement and we embrace our failures as a learning opportunity.

Excellence

We strive for excellence in everything we do. We pursue the highest quality in our products, our performance, and the service we provide for our customers.

Respect

We treat everyone with fairness and dignity, regardless of their background. We acknowledge each individual's contributions, and we win and lose as a team. Everyone has the opportunity to have their voice heard.

Why culture matters

A strong culture helps companies to build trust, relationships and communication. If a company has a poor culture, it is unlikely that employees will have the enthusiasm or productivity levels conducive to business success.

  • One study showed that when employees are engaged productivity can increase by up to 20%.
  • Another highlighted the strong correlation between financial success and strong company culture.
  • 66% of C-suite executives said that culture is more important than strategy or operating models regarding performance.

Building a strong company culture can lead to many business benefits, including:

  • Improved employee engagement
  • Increased productivity
  • Increased creativity and innovation
  • Reduced employee turnover
  • Better talent acquisition.
  • A more positive and collaborative work environment

Recent research shows how vital good company culture is to employees:

  • 77% of job seekers would consider company culture before applying for a job.
  • More than 50% said company culture was more important than salary.
  • 71% said they would look for new opportunities if company culture began to deteriorate.

Developing our culture for the future

We're serious about cultivating a positive culture at Company Watch. Our CEO Craig is spearheading our focus on health and wellbeing. We've got loads of team-building initiatives, and initiatives to support individual growth. Here are some of the ways we foster our company culture:

Fun Committee

Our dedicated committee plans monthly events and bi-yearly company meetups. These events are an opportunity for the team to let their hair down and get to know each other better.

Flexible working

We champion flexible working at Company Watch. The team have the opportunity to work flexible hours, and we have a hybrid working model. Our motto is ‘we don’t count the hours worked, we make our work count.’

Well-being days

We’ve introduced our well-being days 4 times a year. We close the office for the day and give everyone the chance to refresh and recharge. Taking a well-deserved break is essential for maintaining focus and creativity and reducing stress.

Volunteer initiatives

Each staff member has 5 days a year to volunteer for charity work. It gives us a chance to give back and connect with local communities.

Vitality health insurance scheme

Everyone at Company Watch has access to Vitality perks including discounted gym memberships, free physiotherapy, and shopping cashback.

Learning and development

Professional development is key to keeping our people engaged and at the top of their game. Our generous training allowance lets the team develop their skills and advance their careers.

Team building activities

Our Fun Committee organises team building activities so we can get together and celebrate our wins. Recently we took to the Paddington Canal to celebrate our successful product launches in Q1 with drinks in the sunshine.

These are just some of the initiatives we have implemented to promote a healthier and happier workforce.

A note from Craig Evans, our CEO

Over the past few weeks, I have held numerous interviews. As you'd expect, the subject of company culture has come up often. So, I thought I’d write about how I respond when asked about the culture at Company Watch.

Our culture is like a vibrant startup. Even though we are 26 years old, there is a constant hum, a buzz of energy and creativity. Our employees thrive in a collaborative environment where team spirit and togetherness are considered the norm. It’s all about collective responsibility here - everyone feels like they’re steering the ship to success.

Innovation is a constant reminder of the future and the past, as it is in our DNA; it’s a way of life at Company Watch. Passionate individuals are always thinking up fresh, fun ideas, and every voice, regardless of position, gets heard. Respectful interactions keep the atmosphere positive and inclusive, making it a joy to come to work each day.

Mental and physical health are top priorities, with fun wellness initiatives to keep everyone in top shape. When it comes to work-life balance, the company is committed to ensuring that employees have plenty of time to recharge and enjoy life outside of work. It’s a culture where work feels less like a job and more like a thrilling adventure, with a strong emphasis on caring for our employees' well-being.

We’re proud of how our company culture has grown and become stronger over the years. We believe a company is only as good as its people, and our close-knit team is the key to our success.
